Reaching out and asking for help is the first step in networking to get your needs met. Unlike most folks looking for a service dog that is a fully trained adult, it sounds like you would best benefit from financial aid to purchase a Great Dane as a puppy. We applaud your initiative to take on such training initiatives. That should make finding help easier, right?

Not so much. Most organizations that place service dogs are much more hands-on than simply writing a check. They'll probably want to be involved with at least the purchase and delivery of the animal. You may also find that the service dog provider lacks funding for disabled persons. In that case, you'll need to find support for your disability elsewhere and connect them with the service dog provider.

This one doesn't have an easy answer. But service dogs for disabled persons is a worth people's attention. Try getting in touch with the agency resources below. Explain your experience and what you need. And listen to what they can offer.

• Planet Dog Foundation provides grants to dog assistance programs. Those programs in turn connect with needy individuals to provide service animals. Rather than contacting the foundation directly, try contacting the organizations they support. Choose the dog assistance program that best matches your needs and location.
• Similar to above, Assistance Dogs International provides a program search with a lot of possiblities. Don't be afraid to reach out to every organization in your state, starting with those closest. If the first few can't help you, see if they'll tell you why and what about your request is unreasonable. The feedback is valuable.
• One possible direct-source of financial need is the Assistance Dog United Campaign Voucher. If you qualify for the voucher and are a selected recipient then you may use the funds to directly support your dog purchase.

Finally, be sure to reach out to community service groups like your local church or Lions Club and describe your needs. Many of these organizations would love to help you.
