My husband and I are both on disability and are unable to work.  I applied for food Stamps and qualified 1st for $304.00 by using my husbands dental bill that was close to $4,000.00 and is still a little ove $3,000.00.  As you know in the state of Alabama when applying for food stamps you can only use a medical bill for one qualifying year even is you are going to be paying on that bill for longer than that year.  My recertification month is September and the $304.00 went from $304.00 to $16.00 and with our bills we are just not going to be able to buy food much less anything anything else we need for example: tolet paper, toothpaste, dog food, batteries  gas for our vehicle.  Not only am I still paying on that $3,000.00 dentall bill to care credit I just added $585.00 to that bill two weeks ago for dental work for myself because of an abcess tooth and a new bridge and I got the cheapest one they offered.  When we moved in our house April 2015 after 2 weeks the air conditioning/heating system went out and that was a big purchase of $5,000.00 and we pay $98.39 added to our Alabama Power bill each month.  We live in a rural area so we do have cable and internet service and land land @$198.00 month and our mobil phone $146.00, Car ins. $113.00 Power $159.00, Water $50.00, Life ins $39.00 Care Credit (dental) $150.00, Mortgage $419.64.  Our monthly bills are $1,373.03 and our disability checks deposited in our account in $1,678.00 and the difference is $304.97 and that's what we spend a month on food alone and let me explain why.  Gastroparesis is what I have and I have to eat special food and it's expensive.  My stomach is paralyzed and does't digest food and pass it to the small intestins causing it to rot in my stomach causing severe nausea and bloating and I have to be careful what I eat.  I do get extra help with medication but I still pay $45.00 for each of my inhalers so I just don't buy them because I can't afford them and the drug companies want help because I have health insurance the inhalers are over $300.00 each so I am getting a discount.  I have 3 dogs and 1 cat that we feed, my washer and my refrigerator leak, we neee desperate home repairs and our outside barn really needs rebuilt.  Our verhicle is a 2001 and has over 150,000 miles and our parents live in Virginia and one is in Hospice with lung cancer and our vehicle probably want make it there.  I dont know know where to go to get help.  Food stamps is out of the ... That is quite a list of issues you have to deal with, so sorry.

I would recommend that you check out the website This government site provides information about federal, state and local services and programs specifically for those with disabilities and their families. They also help you identify resources in your local area.

As you have a wide variety of issues I'd also recommend that you complete the rather extensive quiz on the government website about benefits as it will identify all the different government programs you may qualify for. Check out a review of and how to use it.

Regarding the repairs you need you can get some good ideas and tips to get help in this article about Grants for Home Repairs. And you might find some additional ideas about how to get help that will reduce your costs in Grants for Seniors.

One more thought --- it's great that you have the blessing of a church that is going to help with your medical trip. I wonder if there are any young folks - or anyone - in the church who is good making short videos with their phones or a camera. If they could help you tell your story in a way that would touch people you might get people to donate to help you on a website like It's a platform that lets you reach a lot of people and you just might hit a chord.
