Sounds like a great dream Carla. Unfortunately we are not aware of any grant makers that fund this type of project, nor any government grants for which you would be eligible. However, there are some other options you might consider:
1. There are now some crowdfunding platforms that let you share your story and see if others will help to fund your project. Each one has a little different approach, but if you have - or can create - an inspiring description of your dream this could be a solution for you. There is a good overview of the crowdfunding sites for individuals here.
2. Another option of course is to go for loans to pursue your project. Loans to purchase property and buld are very different from traditional mortgages and they are handled differently. So you're not eligible for the government programs that help people buy a house. We found a good description of lot loans, land loans and construction loans here.
3. If the house you want to build could be considered a farm, you should also check out grants and loans available from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. You can find out more about them in this review of farm grants. They do have some special programs to encourage and support people new to farming.
