The answer depends a lot about your age, where you live, and what your income is. A good place to start finding helpful resources is this article about Home Improvement Grants.

You might also want to check with your nearest Agency on Aging if you are a senior.

My house has not been repaired since 1969, despite various dangerous storms.  Some of them show signs that ceilings are crumbling to the point of possibly falling apart.   Also, there are health issues that have been negatively affected. Are there free home improvement grants for black woman?

2018-04-24 09:59:36 -0700 answered a question Are there grants for home remodel to support disability?

There are some grants to help people in your situation. They vary quite a bit from state to state so the first place you should check is your state's website. See the article Disability Grants to learn more and get some tips and how to find grants from local agencies which get grant awards from the state to help folks who are disabled make the necessary accommodations in their home.

With regard to the wheelchair -- if you are a member of a church you might check to see if they loan out any medical equipment like wheelchairs. And do an internet church for a term like "wheelchair loan" and see if there is a local program or agency that lends wheelchairs to those who need them.

2018-04-24 08:26:40 -0700 answered a question Are there free grants for dentures?

First let me point out that this site and the people who respond to questions are not connected in any way to the federal or state government. This is a platform that allows people to ask questions related to grants and get answers from the community and people who have knowledge and experience in different areas related to grants and other financial assistance.

You are right that the health of your teeth and gums is critical to your overall health. We are not familiar with any legitimate service that can find you a grant or that has any reason to require $25 from you just to see if you qualify. We would not recommend that you give them any money

I'm not sure specifically about dentures but there are a number of programs and services offereing financial assistance or free or low cost service for dental care. Take a look at this review of such services in Free Dental Care, and also see how to find these programs near you.

My teeth are in very bad shape. My husband died and a big factor was his teeth in very poor condition. I am 63 years old and very concerned that this is effecting my health. Workmans comp WILL NOT help. They even denied a wheelchair.  We are using a loaner from rehab center.  How do I go about getting help? Are there grants for home remodel to support disability?

You are certainly not alone. Fortunately there are a number of places you can turn to for support. If you are a senior or if your parents are living you would be wise to contact the Area Agency on Aging nearest you. Depending on where you are located they may be able to help you. There is also an organization called Rebuilding Together. They help low-income seniors make critical repairs so they can safely remain in their home. This article about Grants for Home Repair can also provide some good leads for getting help.

Wow, it would be great if your own dog could become your service dog! There is a group called the assistance Dog United Campaign. They help people to get and/or train service dogs and they have program grants available if you are disabled and need some financial help. Hope this will help:   Assistance Dog United Campaign.

2017-10-09 21:20:37 -0700 edited question Are there federal grants to train my dog to be a service dog?

I will be 64 on November 1st.  My only income is SSI.  On January 30, 2015 I had Posterior Spinal Fusion Surgery with Utensels (Metal to fuse my spine) C2 to T4. When I awoke from surgery I was told they also put a metal rod in my neck to help support my neck.

Now I cannot look up or down and I can only look left and right just enough to keep mt drivers liecence. I am now considered a 'Fall Risk' Your head and neck go a long way in keeping your balance. I have already fallen once and in doing so loosened 2 screws hold the top plate that is holding the rod in place in my neck.

Since I can't look down I need to be able to see at least 3 feet ahead of me. The worst thing is going down stairs I've never gone down and especially if there is no hand rail. The same is true when walkin across a street. I don't know how far a drop it is to the street level.

They have 'Service Dogs' for people who are fall risks. I have a 8 month old puppy that I've been told would make me an excellent service dog. But he would have to be trained both has a dog that can help me up if I fall and can't get up as well as a dog that can let me know if somthing is in my way or how far down each step is on a staircase.

As I get older the better the chances of me falling. Are there grants or help for people like me. I don't want to be put in a nursing home at my age. I'm too young. My only income is SSI. Are there any grants available to pay for training a dog to be a Service Dog?

2017-06-08 09:31:54 -0700 answered a question Help with home repairs for woman over 50 taking care of elderly mom and granddaughter?

First: there is a National Family Caregiver Support Program that makes it possible for some caregivers to be paid. You qualify based on the income of the person (or persons) you are taking care of. Check the Financial Aid for Family Caregivers in your state, as benefits vary according to where you live. Just go to your state's website andsearch for the name of that program. It's designed to help folks caring for an elderly person and also for minors so you would qualify on both counts.

Also see if you can find some helpful resources in this article about help for Home Repairs.

2017-03-27 12:53:35 -0700 edited question Are grants available to help with the cost of street replacement in front of our home?

Are grants, etc. available to help with the cost of street replacement in front of our home? Are grants available to help with the cost of street replacement in front of our home?

We live in the city limits and the city kicks in only a small percentage of our cost.  We went to a city meeting regarding the street repaving and our estimated share is just under $9,000.  That's a heck of a lot of money for two folks on retirement.  This is so worrisome for us.  I have so far not been able to locate any kind of grant help.  But thanks for replying to our inquiry.

That is an interesting question. I do not know of any kind of grant for this particular purpose. If there is any compensation available I believe it would have to come from the FBI itself. I would contact the people you provided the information to and see if there is any way you could receive some sort of reward for your service.

2016-11-30 08:33:34 -0700 answered a question Can a free clinic get grant money for a meditation room?

That sounds like a very good idea.

Are you a 501c3 non-profit? That would open up a much broader range of opportunities for you to find grants.  In either case, it might still be worthwhile for you to check your state's website and see if there are any relevant grants that might be available to you.

You might also have some luck checking out Grants for Nonprofits. It's a very handy guide to the types of grants available not only from the government but also from private foundations.

2016-09-24 14:56:02 -0700 answered a question Are there grants to open a longterm care facility?

That is a great goal and I admire your determination. It is very clear that a lot of seniors could use your services! It won’t be easy to get started but here are some ideas about where and how to begin:

Residential care facilities are regulated by different entities and requirements in each state. A good place to start is with your own state — probably first with the health department, and then see if they direct you to a more specialized agency.

-To be eligible to receive federal funds you would have to be in compliance with state regulations, and be familiar and in accordance with the Nursing Home Reform Act and the Patient Self Determination Act.

Also search for “Grants” on your state’s web site to see if they offer grants to support this type of venture. And try searching the federal government’s site about grants — this is a good review of grants.gov along with step by step instructions for searching for specific types of grants.

Now I do and will sure every avenue to accomplish my goal for all the elderly who can not do it for themselves I need to do this or at least try. Are there grants to open a longterm care facility? Hi Jerry --- there is a special mortgage that lets you incorporate the amount of money you need for repairs into your mortgage at a very reasonable rate. However, it sounds like this property is something you already purchased. Your best bet may be to apply for a Home Equity Loan assuming you have some equity in the townhouse. You should also take alook at this review of Grants for Home Repair to see if you might qualify for any other special programs.

2016-08-09 13:30:59 -0700 answered a question Are there any Grants for Adaptive Equipment for Disabled Hunters?

Wow - that would be amazing.

I don't know of specific assistance for hunters but there some options you should find helpful.  Definitely go to disability.gov for information. It is an up to date, well organized site that is designed not for the disabled. And they are very specific about recommending resources of many kinds in your local area. You can find a number of them at Grants for Home Repair, and there is some more information specifically for seniors in Grants for Seniors.

If you are a member of the NRA or of any hunters' associations you could check with those as well.

2016-07-04 10:51:56 -0700 edited question Disabled, seeking a grant to relocate to a warmer climate for health reasons.

Our doctors recommend this move. We also need a reliable car to get to our doctors appointments. We are disabled and seeking a grant to relocate to a warmer climate for health reasons.

To whom it may concern, I've looked over the information that you sent me, and I apologize to say I don't really understand, however the bottom line is that I became disabled due to a work injury in 97, but I had responsibility's that needed to be taken care of and at the time of my work injury I wasn't aware of the laws that would have benefited me, so I pushed myself to work another for years, and it only made me condition worse, at that time I had my wife and three children that deepened on me, and sadly in 2005 I was taken out of work by my Dr. At that time he informed me if I kept working in my condition I'd have been either in a wheelchair, paralyzed or both, and like most men it put me into a deep depression so much that I had to see a therapist for several years until I came to grips on the fact that I wasn't half the man I felt like I was at that time, not being able to provide for my family was devastating, as far as I can understand from your information I would need a good credit score/line however my credit score number as of two months ago or more is a FOUR, like everyone else I've been though hard times and I feel for the people that are not as fortunate as I. So for what it's worth that's all I know to say, thank you for your reply.

2016-02-02 08:37:07 -0700 answered a question Need money for down payment on home, but have no accounts.

That sounds like a high down payment requirement since these days there are programs that help you buy a house with just 3% down (vs. the 20% that is being required of you). However, if you have "no accounts"  it's understandable that the seller would require more up front.

There are government and private programs that help people buy homes. You can find out more about some of them in this article about government grants to buy a house.  You should also contact your local HUD agency (Housing and Urban Development). They offer advice about housing and getting money for your down payment. You should be able to reach them by calling 1-800-569-4287.

Finally you might consider telling your story on a "crowdfuning" site that lets other people help out those in need. You can read about sites specifically for personal needs (rather than businesses or the arts) in this article, pretty interesting reading!
It's called "Free Money 2015" but the information is not out of date...
