2018-12-11 11:25:24 -0700 answered a question Are there grants for emergency heating a home?

There is a program which is designed to help people in your situation. It's called the Low Income  Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). You can contact them by phone to learn more and see what help you can get at 202-401-9357.  You can also find more information about special services and programs in the article Grants for Seniors.

2018-09-04 12:56:33 -0700 answered a question How can I become my disabled daughter's caretaker?

There is a program that allows qualifying applicants to be paid for being the caregiver of a disabled family member. Given your age and low income you are probably pretty likely to qualify. Go to the website of your state and search for "Financial Aid for Family Caregivers." That should help you find your state's name for the national Family Caregiber Support Program. You can learn a little bit more about the program in this review of disability.gov. And you can check out Grants for Seniors to be sure you are receiving all the benefits you can as a senior.

2018-09-04 12:40:21 -0700 edited answer Help with home repairs for woman over 50 taking care of elderly mom and granddaughter?

You may be able to take advantage of the National Family Caregiver Support Program. Learn more about it in this review of disability.gov. Though that website doesn't exist anymore the review article provides some good information about the Caregiver Support Program. This program makes if possible for qualifying caregivers to be paid .

Also see if you can find some helpful resources in this article about help for Home Repairs.

2017-10-11 14:30:16 -0700 edited answer Are there grants for a house falling off its foundation?

There are unfurtunately lots of folks in your situation. The good news is there are also a number of places you can turn to for support. One good way to start would be to contact the Area Agency on Aging nearest you. They help seniors with home repairs and the level of help they provide varies according to where you are located. Also look for a local office of the Rebuilding Together program. Their focus is on helping low-income seniors with needed home repairs so that they can live safely in their homes. You can also check out this article about Grants for Home Repair for more tips on resources.

2017-05-17 13:40:02 -0700 edited answer Where to get USA Grants application for disabled elderly home repairs?

First a clarification -- USA Grants simply provides a platform for people to ask questions and informed people to answer. It does not provide any grants itself. However, you can find some good leads to get assistance in this article about grants for seniors.

Our sympathies regarding the death of your brother and his wife's dementia. We would definitely recommend that you check the disability.gov website and search it thoroughly. They do an excellent job in helping you find resources right down to your zip code. You can also get tips on using it in this review of disability.gov.

2017-04-02 11:19:16 -0700 edited answer Are grants available to help with the cost of street replacement in front of our home?

I don't understand exactly what you mean by "street replacement."  If you are talking about the public road in front of your house, that would be covered by your city or the local department of transportation. I would suggest you contact them if this is an urgent need they might not know about. If you don't get a helpful response you might also consider writing a letter to the editor of your local newspaper and explain the situation. Sometimes they have staff devoted to local problems.

For a better understanding of grants this article about grants and where to find them is recommended.

***
Update:  If at least one of you is 62 or older, check out the Department of Agriculture website. They do provide actual grants to seniors for home repairs in rural areas. (You'd be surprised at the pretty suburban areas they classify as rural..).  You should also check out this article about Grants for Seniors and this review of Grants for Home Repair.

2017-03-02 17:31:17 -0700 edited answer Is there a grant to help buy and donate engineering books for high schools?

I don't know of specific grants for that purpose but you might well be able to find funds from a local community service agency, a foundation or another non-profit.

Start with your state's website. Search grants and find out what sort of Block Grants your state has received for things like "community development" and "education."

Also, though it's a long shot, you might try a search on grants.govIt lists all current federal grant opportunities and is constantly updated. This review of grants.gov will give you some good directions and tips about how to do an effective search on the site. You might also get some good ideas at Types of Grants and Where to Find Them.

2017-02-22 15:34:55 -0700 edited answer Where can I get help researching available grants?

I would first take a look at your state's website and search for grants. There coud be some available in this particular area that you could apply for.

Also, are you familian with grants.gov? It can be a bit overwhelming but it is also the most current and complete repository of existing federal grant opportunities. Take a look at this overview that includes good grant search instructions

You could also check out this article about types of grants and where to find them.

2017-02-22 15:18:05 -0700 edited answer Where in Dallas, TX can I get accredited or certified grant education?

I am not sure what type of certification you are looking for. If you want to learn more about being a proficient and/or professional grant writer you could search for that type of learning in your state or county. If you want to be certified as a professional in the general area of "grantmanship" you could contact the Grants Professionals  Certification Institute.

If you want some direction and training in that area of writing grant applications, take a look at this article about writing good grant proposals and see if that helps you.

If what you are looking for is a way to better understand grants and where you can find them, check out Types of Grants and Where to Find Them.

2017-02-06 14:48:41 -0700 edited question How to apply for low income assistance

Hi My name is Kayla. My husband, 2YR-old daughter and I are currently living with my mother-in-law. She's looking for a place to move herself, due to not being able to afford all the bills. My husband is currently unemployed and steadily looking for work daily.  We have 4 kids all together to care and provide for. We get our 3 boys every weekend. We pay $565 child support monthly on the 3 boys.(Alex,Brandon, & Skyler) We are behind on child support as of right now, and slowly sinking, especially having a 2YR old that has numerous needs growing up. If there's anyway you could help me I would greatly appreciate it, even if it was just a little bit more information about it, or what I would need to do about trying to apply for the  LOW income assistance. Thank you In advance. God Bless!

2016-11-30 07:58:33 -0700 answered a question Where can I get a grant home improvement application?

The only home improvement or repair "grants" that exist (to our knowledge) are offered by the Department of Agriculture. Qualifications include being 62 years old or more and living in specific rural areas. If you meet those qualifications you can find out how to pursue this type of grant either by going to the USDA website or by reading more information in an article called Grants for Home Repair. But be aware that neither of these sites will just present you with an application.

If your home improvement is not considered to be a "luxury item" you might qualify for a HUD Title 1 Home Improvement Loan. These are guaranteed by the FHA so banks are more willing to lend. You need to find an approved lender in your area to pursue this option. You can do an internet search for your town or county or contact HUD's Customer Service line at 800-767-7468. Also check out this article about Home Improvement Grants.

2016-09-24 14:57:29 -0700 edited answer Are there grants to open a longterm care facility?

That is a great goal and I admire your determination. It is very clear that a lot of seniors could use your services! It won’t be easy to get started but here are some ideas about where and how to begin:

Residential care facilities are regulated by different entities and requirements in each state. A good place to start is with your own state — probably first with the health department, and then see if they direct you to a more specialized agency.

-To be eligible to receive federal funds you would have to be in compliance with state regulations, and be familiar and in accordance with the Nursing Home Reform Act and the Patient Self Determination Act.

Also search for “Grants” on your state’s web site to see if they offer grants to support this type of venture. And try searching the federal government’s site about grants — this is a good review of grants.gov along with step by step instructions for searching for specific types of grants.

2016-09-06 13:53:02 -0700 edited answer Are grants available to small business to purchase abandoned houses / buildings in distressed neighborhoods?

Sounds like such a great program much needed by a great city! Here are a few  programs which should be very receptive to an African American company:

The HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development) 203k program provides assistance for the purchase of homes that need serious (at least $5000 worth) repairs and/or rehabilitation and could be an option for you. You can learn more about its availibility in your are through any FHA approved lender.

The Atlanta Beltline program itself has two programs which you should be perfect for. Go to the Atlanta Beltline website and read specifically about the Atlanta BeltLine Housing Initiative Program and the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. Both provide assistance to homebuyers who will improve the property.

2016-08-31 18:01:31 -0700 edited answer Are there grants to restore an old barn?

Well, there are a couple of places I suggest you try. Assuming you're looking for a grant and not a loan (that you have to pay for), try Grants for Home Repair and also Grants for Historical Buildings. You could also check with your local Community Development Office and see if your town or county might be interested in helping you to preserve a building that is part of they history of your area.

2016-07-26 17:54:08 -0700 edited question Is phone call about a government grant for real?

A man named James Miller just called me and told me he was from the federal grants dept ID #ad107.

He told me I was approved for an $8,000 tax free never to pay back grant and was selected out of a big group of people across the state. But when he couldn't tell me my address and gave me the wrong area code I felt he was a scammer. He got upset with me and told me he was going to report me because I was going to report him. ( it was a little comical). Anyway is there any truth to this? I have received emails about the government wanting to help me. Please reply at yoursoonest convenience. Thank you

2016-07-26 16:42:57 -0700 edited question Are there grants to start a farm?

I want to build high hoop green houses to raise peach trees so frost and freeze won't kill blooms and young fruit.  Then I will plant strawberries  on racks so to put more plants in for more pruduction,  then blackberries to raise inside to keep birds for them and from blueberries too. Same with raspberries. I also want to raise vegables using hyprondic techniques, and vegables like herbs, onions and potatoes and tomatoes, cabbage and lettuces and other vegables to eat and to sell and donate some to senior citizens to help them out. I will sell some to pay for more supplies and also to plant apple trees and pears and pecans to sell and to eat and help my family with fresh food -- not store bought and not using any chemicals on fruit trees and vegables. I need to purchase a tractor with a crop manure spreader to spread compost on crop and a truck to haul in compost and sand to loosen soil and track hose to clean up some of the land and dirt to level field and fill in washouts on creek bank and fill in places to level up ground so it will drain off easily  and level a spot to place equipment. And at the same time I will need to  to build a shed to cover and keep it out of weather. Are there grants to start a farm?

2016-07-17 13:04:15 -0700 edited answer How can I get my house that needs to be condemned rebuilt?

This is a very tough situation -- as you know!

Two suggestions:  one is to go and read this article about grants for home repair -- it covers all the places and programs I know of that might be able to help you.  Next, follow up on every one of the suggestons -- including contacting local churches.

It may be too late for any legal recourse regardng the person who sold you the home. But it could be worth finding a nearby Legal Aid office to see if they will help or refer you to someone else.

Please do read that article. If you live an a rural area you might be eligible for a grant from the Department of Agriculture and the article explains that. Also if you are taking care of your daughter you might be able to get paid for your services. Take a look at a review of disability.gov -- particularly the section titled Financial Aid for Family Caregivers. That could help you get some extra income!

2016-07-17 12:54:15 -0700 edited question How can I get my house that needs to be condemned rebuilt?

I am a 62 year old widow with a Daughter that had a stroke two years ago.  I am on a very tight budget.  Accordingly per the government I am in the middle lower part of the proverty line.  I bought my house in 2007; I was not informed that this house was in a severe fire.  No lawyer would help me with this issue.  Time went by and now my house will either need to be condemned or rebuilt.  The roof leaks and there is rotted wood.  I have a four foot by a six foot area of the ceiling in my bedroom that is stained and buckled due to the roof leaks.  This has happened during the flooding rains last year.  My home owners insurance refused to repair any part of my house that has been damage due to the storm.  They claim that they do not cover storm damage. My house had floor joices cut away by the prior owner due to the fire. Due to the floor joices being cut away by the prior owner my floors are now sagging.  The support beam that goes from one corner to the other corner of the house to help support the ceiling is nothing but burnt wood threads with chunks of charcol wood.

My house is no longer level. There are areas in my house where the floor has come apart from the walls.  I have areas in the family room that the floors are rotted out completely from under the fire place and one of the built-in cabinets.  My house is no longer sitting leveled. My floors are all unleveled.  I had a contractor come out to my house to examine it to see if he would condemn it.  He stated to me just give me a call when you have the money to get the house rebuilt.  My house is unsafe to live in and I need to have my roof replaced to prevent any further damage.

I will never be able to get the money to rebuild my house.  I need help.  Either I have the house condemned to where I no longer need to make a mortgage payment and can move on or I may have to claim total bankruptsy.  If I did claim bankruptsy I would not be able to get any assistance with my situation.  Is there a phone number that I can call to get help? I am at wit's end as the expression goes.  Is there a web site called Safe house.gov?
