I would first take a look at your state's website and search for grants. There coud be some available in this particular area that you could apply for.

Also, are you familian with grants.gov? It can be a bit overwhelming but it is also the most current and complete repository of existing federal grant opportunities. Take a look at this overview that includes good grant search instructions

You could also check out this article about types of grants and where to find them.

2017-02-02 16:25:18 -0700 answered a question How do I get a grant for education?

Well it can depend somewhat on your stage in life and whether you are talking about finishing undergraduate or post-graduate education.

The best place to start looking is with the U.S. Government's Department of Education (edu.gov). You should fill our a FAFSA form as soon as possible to see what types of grants or other aid you may be eligible for. Also check to see if you could qualify for a Pell Grant, the best game in town! You can find out fast with a very quick Pell Grant Eligibility Quiz. Filling out the FAFSA will also let you know if you will receive a Pell Grant.

2016-11-30 08:27:40 -0700 answered a question Is there a grant out there for finishing school?

We certainly need more nurses and caregivers! I would recommend a couple of possibilities:

- Contact the financial aid office of a GED school or training program and see if they can refer you to some resources for financial assistance. States do receive block grants from the Department of Education so that they can provide GED courses so there could be some funds available where you live.

- Take a look at this article about Grants for Women. Scroll down to the section about some assistance programs for schooling. One of them is a Women's Scholarship Fund that specifically targets women over 35 who are trying to go back to school.

2016-08-23 15:39:24 -0700 answered a question Are there grants for small business owners affected by flood?

At the moment I'm afraid FEMA and the SBA in particular are your best bets. You can find out more at the SBA site about support for businesses affected by the flood.

Your governor has asked the federal government for block grants to provide millions of dollars to help individuals and businesses affected by this disaster. You should check your state website and stay tuned for any news in this regard along with how to apply.

2016-08-09 14:18:09 -0700 answered a question Are there grants available for a first time home owner to replace electric/plumbing in their duplex?

Sounds like the previous owner was not very forthcoming about the true condition of this home. You might want to check with your real estate agent to see what recourse you may have --- or check for Legal Aid services in your area.

In the meantime I recommend that you check out this article about Home Repair Grants - it does a good job of clarifying what is (and is not) available and where you can look for help. Options include government programs as well as help from non-profits and churches.

2016-08-08 22:14:13 -0700 edited question Are there grants available for a first time home owner to replace electric/plumbing in their duplex?

I just bought a house a week ago and since the plumbing has had issues that require it to be replaced ASAP and since opening a wall have realized the electric is not up to code and is probably a firehazard. I did not budget for these expenses when I purchased the house. :( Are there grants available for a first time home owner to replace electric/plumbing in their duplex?

2016-05-16 21:44:55 -0700 edited question Where do you find any real grant applications?

Everything I run into is asking for money, or talking about government loans. I am looking for grant applications, not loans, and nothing I have to pay for. A simple website for real, different types of grants.

2016-01-21 20:54:08 -0700 edited question Is there funding above SSI, for elderly physically disabled?

I had been employed part-time recently, that supplemented my low Income enough; an extra $2000 to $3000 yearly, to allow my spouse and me to get by. Now, at age 87, I have been afflicted with hand disability that as a mechanic renders me unemployable. Our resultant income seems to come up somewhat short of our livelihood needs, and we are slipping toward unredeemable debt.  Is there any sustained government or other aid that would continue us til our demise?

2015-11-08 19:42:00 -0700 answered a question Help for Disabled Veteran to Start New Business?

Hi, I just thought I'd notify some veterans of the seldom used Aid and Attendance funds.  These are funds for the asking if you meet slime very simple qualifications, such as less than  $80,000 in assets, and certain disabilities.  These disabilities do not have to result form battle, though a vet must have been in active certain dates of war time.  I've attached some web sites that can explain it better than me.  To start this process go to the county VA office and let them make the application.  If you try and do it it can take months to try and untangle the GOVERNMENT process.

Veterans take notice!!! You earned this benefit.  It is not a pension, it is a benefit.  It is not the money some receive for injuries during battle.  This is yours jsut because you were enlisted during certain datres and you and or your spouse are now suffering form declining health.  Free for the asking and tax free, and retroactive to the date applied.

Thank you Veterans,  God Bless You.
2015-01-08 17:53:27 -0700 answered a question How can I get money to buy a car as a disabled senior citizen?

Excellent questions heavyheart, you have a tough problem to deal with. If you are in a wheelchair I don't know how you can drive, you may find it tough to get help buying a car. I think your best starting place is to look thoroughly through the government website disability.gov. It is very extensive and is kept quite up-to-date with lots of information about services and resources for the disabled. They have an entire section on transportation, so perhaps if they can't help you get a car they would be able to help you find a service in your area. To get some tips about using and navigating that site you could also check out a review of disability.gov.
