There may be some grants and certainly other financial assistance programs you could benefit from. My first suggestions is to contact your county's Area Agency on Aging and ask about assistance funds you could be eligible for based on the Older Americans Act.

Contact the county Area Agency on Aging to find out about home modification and repair funds provided by the Older Americans Act.

Also check out the information provided in this review of Grants for Seniors.

If you are looking for a grant to attend school when you return to the U.S., or if you want help paying for schooling outside the country. When you return to the U.S. you can certainly apply for a Pell Grant, which are made available to American students with low family incomes. No calls that come out of the blue and tell you you've qualified for a government grant are legitimate. This is surely a scam. There is an e-funding club but we've been unable to find any reviews on it and it is primarily an information service that charges you $60 per month with no guarantee that they will find you a governemnt grant. To be sure you don't fall for such scams please read our article about phone call scams and the many, many rip-offs that are operating these days. And if you are in despeate need please see our review called I Need Help.

But I had a choice to a cashier check which would have taken longer but I am desperate there are a lot going on in my life right now and I could really use the money. I am fighting for full custody of my grandchildren and the lawyers fees have wiped me out.

2018-01-22 17:38:44 -0800 answered a question About my grant money I’ve never received

Sadly this is not a surprise --- because this is a scam. You will never be called out of the blue fby anyone who is legitimately from a government agency (such as the CFDA). There is a scam going on right now where callers pretend to be from the CFDA or another agency and announce that you've won a grant. It doesn't happen that way. Grants by definition do not require you to pay any kind of a fee.  There proably is no way to get your money back but you can report it to the FBI. And please read this article about free money phone call scams so you don't get taken again...

2017-11-08 11:52:04 -0800 answered a question How can we get a grant to repair our home damaged by a hurricane?

Many states offer programs to help people in your situation -- particularly when there are health issues involved. That black mold should be a concern, and the fact that seniors and disability are involved could also qualify you for help. Get in touch with your nearest Area Aging Agency -- if you can't find it you can call 1-800-677-1116 for help getting contact information.

You could also see if you can find a local office of the organization Rebuilding Together -- they help the elderly and the disabled with home repairs. And you might also contact local churches since some of them have ministries that provide home repairs.

If you don't have insurance you might be able to get some casualty loss assisance via the IRS -- get some more detail at Home Repair Help.

I don't know of specific grants for that purpose but you might well be able to find funds from a local community service agency, a foundation or another non-profit.

Start with your state's website. Search grants and find out what sort of Block Grants your state has received for things like "community development" and "education."

Also, though it's a long shot, you might try a search on grants.govIt lists all current federal grant opportunities and is constantly updated. This review of grants.gov will give you some good directions and tips about how to do an effective search on the site. You might also get some good ideas at Types of Grants and Where to Find Them.

I am not sure what type of certification you are looking for. If you want to learn more about being a proficient and/or professional grant writer you could search for that type of learning in your state or county. If you want to be certified as a professional in the general area of "grantmanship" you could contact the Grants Professionals  Certification Institute.

If you want some direction and training in that area of writing grant applications, take a look at this article about writing good grant proposals and see if that helps you.

Good question, I'm afraid we are not very familiar with entities in the U.S. that make grants to those in other countrries. You might take a look at the U.S State Department website and see if you can search "internatioinal grants" or find any information on the site.

You could also contact that Africa Foundation which I believe is located in South Africa. They are largely interested in conservation but also put an emphasis on community development.

2016-11-30 08:30:39 -0800 answered a question Is it true for the government to choose a person randomly to get a grant of $9000.00?

NO! This is NOT a legitimate call, don't fall for it -- you will never see the grant or your $250 again. The government DOES NOT call to tell you that you have qualified for a grant, and I don't know of any groups that do so, especially if you have not submitted an application. Most frequently these are scams and people are trying to get you to send money and/or get you to give them your personal information. Please NEVER give them such information, and do not send them any money thinking that you will receive a “grant.” It just doesn't happen that way. Important: read this quick article about Free Money Phone Call Scams so that you will not fall for one of these calls!

2016-11-07 20:07:31 -0800 edited question Is there an emergency dental grant?

We live in New York State. We've used the same dentist for over 7 years, until recently, when my wife started having serious problems with the work he performed. After bringing the problems to the dentist attention he became very angry and unprofessional. We decided it would be best to having a cooling off period then go back to try and get the problems fixed. The situation was even more unprofessional. We tried going some place else only to find out my wife needs a great deal of corrective procedures done with astronomical cost. By the way, we even tried filing a complaint however there's not a board that oversees dentists. We heard of a dental grant. Please if any body can help pointing us in the right direction we'd greatly appreciate your help. Thank you for taking a minute to read this and maybe knowing where we can turn. It's very serious considering the amount of pain she's in almost constantly. Thanks again.

You should also check with the Financial Aid office at your university, they should be a good source of information.

Also check your state's website. Many states have a section about grants, and local agencies get some money from block grants intended to build up the community. Your business might be eligible for some state money
