There are some resources that could be available to you. Go to this article about Grants for Seniors and scroll down to the section titled Senior Benefits. In the second paragraph there's some great information about a useful tool sponsored by the National Council on Aging. You enter your zip code and some other information about your age, income, etc and the topic you’re concerned with and it will generate a personalized report for you about resources available.

Hope that helps!

I have a big tree in my back yard that needs to be cut down. When the wind blows or it snows the tree branches break and fall on our roof. It has already damaged one of our gutters on the side of my house and it also fills our gutter as well. Both my husband and I are seniors. I am hoping you can cut the tree down. I have a big tree and I need to have it cut down. The braches break and fall on my roof. And it fills my gutter up. Both my husband and I are seniors and cannot cut the tree down. And I can not afford to pay to have it cut down. I hope you can help. Is there help to remove a big tree from our yard?

2018-02-05 13:06:13 -0800 answered a question Are there grants for installing a community garden for low-income seniors?

First please be aware that we are an information site only -- we are not connected with the government nor do we have ffunds to award ourselves. We provide a forum where people looking for grants can get information and leads from others.

That said, If you or the senior property  in question is an officially designated  501(c)3 you may have some opportunities for getting a grant for your community garden. I would recommend you start by checking out your state's website and see if there are grants available for projects like this which help to build community.

Also take a look ata this article about Grants for Nonprofits. It's a useful summary of the grants available from the government as well as from some private companies and foundations. Hope this works out for you, the garden sounds like a wonderful idea.

2018-01-29 20:52:32 -0800 edited question Are there grants for installing a community garden for low-income seniors?

This a a 50 unit low income senior property.  It has a diverse population and many prefer to grow their vegetables, but are limited to where and how much they can plant.  We are thinking about putting in a community garden for use by any resident.  Since this is a non-profit, I was inquiring about some grant money to install this garden. I am inquiring about a grant for installing a community garden for my low income senior in a Section 8/Elderly property.

Great attitude, it's a really good idea to start by getting some of the training and education you need. A great place to look for business help --- including training, ongoing suport, and help with financing is microfinance lenders. They are dedicated to helping folks like you, especially those that want to benefit the community. You should also take a look at the opportunities available to help those who want to buy a house for the first time. Check out Grants for First Time Homebuyers.

2017-07-10 21:24:16 -0800 edited question Can you combine grants for the greater cause?

I need training in financial areas so that if I am awarded a grant then I will know how to take care of business correctly and successfully. I have been awarded educational grants, which is going to help me run a business that will be dedicated to the community. I am trying also to be a first time buyer of a home. Success starts at home, I believe and I've never had my own home. Can you combine grants for the greater cause?

2017-05-17 14:17:22 -0800 answered a question Are there grants for a non-profit to get money for diagnosis awareness and research?

The National Institute of Health has awarded grants in the past specifically for some rare voice disorders. You could check their website to see if you can find more information about that, or take a look at grants.gov and search for a grant that you could qualify for. This review of grants.gov provides very useful information about how to search to get the most relevant results.

This article about Grants for Nonprofits could also provide you with some good pointers and tips for how and where to search for grants.

I belong to a non-profit organization that was established to help people with a rare voice disorder.  Can we get a grant for further research about the cause of this voice disorder?  Can we also get money to promote awareness of the disability so people can get properly diagnosed?  Our voices are a "life function" and it's difficult to navigate through life without it. Are there grants for a non-profit to get money for diagnosis awareness and research?

That's some tough luck Daniel. But the assistance the government provides in situations like yours is through Unemployment Benefits. Click that link for a good, objective overview of what those are and how it works. It's not quick though. In the meantime see this article called grants to pay bills for ideas about where to get help and how to bring in some extra cash

I received a call from a lady name Nancy. She said I was picked to receive a government grant for $9,000. 2017-04-04 11:05:45 -0800 answered a question Are there any grants for homes in KY?

There are programs in just about every state to help people buy homes. If you want to see what counties have received block grants from the feds and may be using that money to help home buyers, check out the HUD website. Government Grants to Purchase a Home will tell you more about what type of information you can find there - and where else you can look for help. You could also check your state web site and search for grants for homes.

2017-04-03 20:37:38 -0800 edited question Are there hardship grants?

I worked at my job for eight years or so. I had bought a home and was planning on moving in this tax time. I was going to use the Federal Tax Rebate check and fix our home up to move-in. Well, in March I was let go of my job for no reason. I had to use my taxes to leave. I am still waiting on my unemployment and had to use my fixer-up money just to pay bills. I still have bills coming in with no income. If this isn't hardship then I don't what is. Me and my family will be on the street shortly. We need HELP NOW! Your resident needs your help to keep my family safe. Please if there is a hardship Gant think of US.

2017-02-28 15:00:31 -0800 answered a question Grants for a wheelchair accessible mini van?

This is a tough situation I know. Do you belong to a church or other faith community? Sometimes they will help make your need known and take up a collection -- you might be surprised how generous people can be.

You can also check this review of the disability.gov government site. There have unfortunately been changes to the site and it is no longer as helpful as it once was. However, it should get you do a site that contains links to resoures for people with disabilities.

You should also take a look at a site called Mobile Works. It will let you click on the state you live in and it will tell you what grans and assistance programs are available where you live.

My 1989 wheelchair mini van is no longer drivable and I am retired and do not have the funds to buy a new one.  I now have to rely on another to drive me.  I am very involved with community work with children and adults but now have to tell them "no" because I do not have my own transportation. Please help in finding a grant to fund a wheelchair accessible mini van. Are there grants for a wheelchair accessible mini van?

2016-12-19 15:25:03 -0800 edited question Is this federal grant offer a fraud?

At the recommendation of a longtime friend, I requested to be friends with a 'Alisha Anson' on FaceBook, in order to see if I qualify for a federal grant.  My friend got $90K delivered to him by UPS within 24 hours.  I trust him, but it still doesn't sound right.  Alisha sent me her banking info.  Its to a personal account of Peter Lawrence Smith at US Bank.

Please Advise.

2016-11-30 08:45:45 -0800 answered a question Do I have to pay tax on a grant?

Yes, this is a scam. Change your Facebook password. Report this incident to Facebook. And do not provide any more personal information or send any money to these folks. Glad you have not sent them $1000, don't do it! Find out about some other free money scams and avoid them!

2016-11-29 15:27:58 -0800 edited question Do I have to pay tax on a grant?

So I was being scammed. The set-up started on Facebook. I accepted a friend request from a profile who's name and picture I associated with a cousin that I haven't talked to in a long time. He asked me how I was doing. I said fine, newly retired. He asked if I had received my government help support yet.

I have since found out today that the Facebook account (that I thought belonged to a relative of a cousin through which initial contact was made) had been hijacked. It had belonged to my cousin's father in law, whose husband shares the same name.

I said no, and he gave me an e-mail address to contact. This contact sent me a questionairre, shipping info for my check and request for $1000. Both my Facebook "friend" and this contact have repeatedly asked if I've sent the money yet. I believe they are the same person. Of course, I haven't.

But he/they strung me all the way to the edge.

Is this a scam?

2016-07-04 13:59:02 -0800 answered a question I need help for double-wide home improvements.

So sorry for your predicament Elen!

It sounds pretty urgent for you to get your repairs done soon. There is a group called Rebuilding Together that provides home repair services for the elderly and disabled -- you qualify on both counts! You can read more about them in this article about Grants for Home Repair, and you could also do an internet search to see if you find them in your area. I would recommend you do both!

Also see the government site that provides a ton of information for people with disabilities -- this is a good guide to disability .gov

You might also check with local churches to see if they have a ministry that serves the elderly.

2016-07-04 11:12:14 -0800 edited question I need help for double-wide home improvements.

I bought my double-wide in 2000. I am disabled and live alone since paying off my home after neck surgery in 2012. I was on disability since 1992 for bipolar disorder and fibromyalgia. The "so called" surgeon was supposed to scrape arthritis from my disk in 2012. He cut the back of my neck, cutting so deep, he ruined my neck and shoulders for life because the nerves he cut and cannot he undone.

My property, years before I bought it, was connected by water lines from my house across the lot between the neighbors. They told me all the water pipes deep underground are tangled and no one knows where. My meter is in in their front yard. The county said, if the pipes replaced, I can get a new meter in my own yard. Pipes keep breaking and several times flood my kitchen and where washer dryer and furnace are. The furnace is rusty all over.  At my bedroom door big chunks of carpet are missing, causing me to lose my balance and even with the walker, makes me fall quite often. I pray you can help me. Thank you for time and consideration in this matter.
