My son has had severe mental disabilities since he was born and has been on SSI since he was 10.  Doctors couldn't tell us what was wrong and he grew up tortured that he didnt understand.  He turned to drugs and has been in and out of hospitals for years.  He became a heroin addict winding up in ICU twice.

He went to treatment for it but lately he has turned to mixing meth with xanax.  It makes him go out of his mind doing things he doesn't remember and would never normally do.  He was in ICU for several days just a few months ago for that.  I understand about tough love but thats difficult when his mental problems are such that he wouldn't know the first thing about how to take care of himself.

I got to the point where I stayed locked in my room after my accident which evolved into agoraphobia and PTSD.  I take medication but more times than not he finds it and steals it from me.  I have frequent panic attacks and don't know what to do.  He has completely destroyed my home.  I have several broken windows, a hole in at the top of my house with racoons come into my attic, my garage ceiling and door are broken, and doors/frames have been yanked off the frame.

I've owned my home for 10 years and its all I have left.  I need to repair it and try to find a long term treatment program for my son before anything worse happens.  If anyone knows of anything I can try (that I haven't already) please, please tell me.

Thanks for reading

I admire the fact that you still believe. Please visit the government web site disability.gov and search relevant areas for assistance. They provide information about resources for both the disabled and their caregivers. The site is very thorough and up to date and can tell you what is available in your specific local area. If you want to read a review of the site with some tips about how to use it you can find that here.

Regarding your home repairs, there is huge demand for such services. Often local county or state governments can provide assistance and you could look for local programs by going to your city or state web site and looking for grants or specifically searching "home repairs". You can also find more advice about getting some help in this article about grants for home repair.
