I am interested in making prosthetic hands for children. This would be a not-for-profit business.  We will be doing this with a special 3D printer and I need the start up money to buy the printer and the materials. Are there grants to make prosthetics for a not-for-profit business?

If your business will be a 501(C3) as defined by the IRS you will have more potential options for finding a grant. If you don't have that designation you might be able to partner with another nonprofit in your area in order to find a grant.

It's always a good idea to start by looking at your own state's website and searching for grant information. Many states have funds they use to provide grants to organizations whih support the community.

You migYou should definitely check out Grants for Nonprofits. It's a useful guide to twhat  grants might be available not only from the government but also from private foundations.
