I have been searching for someone that will train my 9mth old German Shepherd as a Diabetic Alert Dog.

I have had Type 1 Diabetes for 49yrs and no longer feel any symptoms of hypoglycemia.  It has become so dangerous that glucose readings have fallen to 15mgd resulting in Paramedics being called twice since the first of this year and several seizures during the night in which my husband has had to try to bring me out of them.

I am now on Hemodialysis and have heart failure, these episodes life threatening.

IF you know of a resource that could help someone like me get my dog trained...I would so appreciate any information you could provide.

I have found a training facility known as DADS in College Station, TX.  We live 70 miles away in Temple, TX.  The trainer there has told me that they could take my dog for the months she would need to be trained, but the cost is some $10,000.00.

My husband and I are both disabled, he a Vet and me on SSDI.

Thank you for your assistance.

Try a group called the "Assistance Dog United Campaign". Their goal is to assist people like you to get a service dog or to train one, especially if you are disabled and need help with finances. Check them out at   Assistance Dog United Campaign.
