I am a 100% disabled, female veteran. I live alone and I have no idea how to find help. I live in Houston, Texas. Summers are pretty brutal down here. I have a window unit, but it does little to cool down my house. Any ideas? Is there help to repair or replace air conditioners in Houston, TX?

Yes, Houston summers are definitely a challenge! I would hope that the Veterans Administration would be a good place for you to start finding assistance or at least referrals for help. If you have not had luck there take a look at this article about grants for veterans to see if you can find help there. And in this article about disability grants there is a wealth of information about seeking services for those with disabilities.

Perhaps your best bet is a service offered by Habitat for Humanity called the Repair Corps program. It is specifically for veterans, to help out by “serving those who have served us.”  Find out more about the Repair Corps program, it could be just what you need.
