Though a lot of federal grants are for government agencies and states there are also some for which individuals are eligible. Some grant applications include a requirement that you supply a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). If you are not really looking for a grant but for some sort of government financial assistance, you might be able to use benefits.gov to identify what you’re eligible for — as long as you are a “legally present” non-citizen.
