I am 47 and unable to work. I recieve Social Security Disability and I have Medicaid and Medicare.  I am looking for financial help to get a car and to pay my bills. I live in Kalamazoo, Michigan and need to know if there is a grant that can help me. Are there grants to help a disabled woman of color who needs more than Social Security provides?

The Kalamazoo Community Action Agency is probably the best place for you to start looking for additional help. They are a state agency that provides some low income grants as well as other types of assistance. You can get more information and set up an appointment by calling them at (269) 373-5066.

There are also a couple other sources you might try. Workingcarsforworkingfamilies has locations in many areas of the country and they help low income people buy used cars. And an article about grants to pay bills provides straight facts about what is and is not available, what you should avoid, and ideas for getting some extra income.
