Is there any funding available to assist a group of students with expenses related to travel for baton twirling competition? Local elementary school girls have won their local competition and moved on to state competition, if they win state they move on to nationals - dilemma, the school district does not fund these activities. The girls have had many fundraisers to earn the money to pay for their travel but as they advance in their competitions, the expenses mount substantially.

Any assistance in providing grant funding sources and/or any other information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Congratulations to your students for making it this far in your competition! This type of grant or funding is most likely to come from local sources. But you could first take a look at the article about Types of Grants and Where to Find Them — scroll down to the section called “Other Grants” and see if that provides some good leads.

Also do internet searches for your city/state/county to see if there are some targeted to just this type of activity. Contact your local newspaper and see if they will run a feature article about your students and what they're trying to do, how they reflect positively on your town, etc.

And depending on how much time you have, you might consider putting up a campaign on kickstarter.com to see if you can get some crowd funding — you probably have some students who would be great at putting together a short video to promote your cause.
